Autopot systems let individual plants determine the amount and frequency of watering via the use of the Autopot Smart Valve. This takes away any guesswork allowing each plant to flourish in optimal growing conditions.

The Smart-Valve works by restricting the flow of water (or nutrient) into the tray until it has nearly all fully drained. At this time, the smart valve opens and allows fresh water to fill the tray again. This wet - dry cycle is similar to what occurs in nature with rainfall and the dry periods in between.

There is no need for pumps, as each AutoPot system uses a simple gravity feed method, and the range of applications AutoPot can be used in is immense - from a single plant to huge commercial situations.

Each system is controlled by a "Smart Valve" which works in three different steps;

Smart Valve

1. The tray receives an initial fill of water/nutrient

2. The pot sitting in the tray will draw the water down at it's own rate

3. The Smart-Valve remains closed until the draw down is complete,
before reopening and allowing fresh water/nutrient into the tray again.

This process is repeated giving the plants a wet - dry cycle without needing to check when and how much to water!

The Smart-valve controls the water level in a module (or your own tray) to give plants a wet-dry cycle.

Unlike a conventional float valve, a Smart-valve allows total reduction of the fluid level before it refills. When connected to a water supply (which can be from either pressure reduced mains, or gravity tank) the valve opens to allow water to enter the bottom of the growing container to a set depth (approx 35mm). The valve then closes to stop further water to enter the container until all the original supply has been completely used. This absorption is achieved by capillary action that naturally occurs in the growing medium. Once the water has been absorbed to the extent that the film of water under the valve has gone, the valve re-opens and another supply of water enters the growing container - wet-dry cycles dictated by the plant's own rate of consumption
