Conductivity Probe Care, Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper care and regular cleaning of your conductivity probe is essential to maintain accurate readings and extend the life of the probe. The process is quick and simple and should be performed regularly.

Probe Care
The protective shroud must remain on the probe tip at all times, except during cleaning. Avoid touching the probe face with your fingers, as oils from your skin can contaminate the probe and affect readings.

Probe Maintenance
The conductivity probe should be cleaned weekly to maintain accuracy and performance. Regular cleaning is important for: maintaining accurate conductivity readings, ensuring long probe lifespan, preventing build-up or contamination on the probe surface. Bluelab recommends performing this cleaning procedure once per week. Cleaning only requires: liquid scourer or probe cleaner, a Bluelab chamois (or similar soft cleaning cloth) and fresh running water. For convenience, you can also use the Bluelab Cleaning Kit which includes everything needed in one package.

Conductivity Probe Cleaning Instructions
Follow these steps to properly clean the probe.

• Step 1 — Remove the protective shroud from the end of the probe.
• Step 2 — Apply Cleaner Place a few drops of probe cleaner onto the probe face. Rub the probe face firmly and vigorously using the base side of the chamois.
• Step 3 — Rinse the probe under fresh running water. While rinsing, gently rub the probe surface with the opposite side of the chamois to remove all traces of cleaner.
• Step 4 — Shake Dry the Probe. Do not use a cloth or towel. Using a cloth may contaminate the probe surface.
• Step 5 — Check that water forms a film on the probe face, without beads of water.  If water beads up, the probe is still contaminated. Repeat the cleaning process until the probe surface holds an even film of water.
• Step 6 — Replace the Shroud Place the protective shroud back onto the probe tip. The shroud must be in place to: Protect the probe Ensure accurate conductivity readings
• Step 7 — Verify the Probe Reading Check the probe in a 2.77 EC conductivity standard solution to confirm correct operation. Allow time for the probe to reach the same temperature as the solution before taking the reading.
• Step 8 — Repeat Cleaning if Necessary If the probe reading is outside the expected range, repeat the cleaning process until the probe reads correctly.

Important Note A conductivity reading is only as accurate as the cleanliness of the probe. Regular cleaning is essential for reliable measurements and consistent system performance.
