It is important to choose the correct carbon filter and fan combination for your situation.
There are two important points to consider when choosing a carbon filter and fan.
- The air in the grow room needs to be filtered at least every two minutes. So you need to choose a carbon filter and fan combination to suit.
- The carbon in each filter needs 0.1 seconds of contact time with the air to filter effectively. If the air passes through the filter too quickly (ie. if the fan is too powerful), the carbon will not have enough time to cleanse the air before it exits again.
The best way to calculate this is on the Calculation Sheet below. All you need to do is measure your grow room and fill in the boxes on the sheet.
Remember: it is always better to choose a filter that is bigger than required, as their will be more carbon and a greater surface area of carbon to filter the air. And choose a fan that is rated at the maximum airflow for the filter or lower.
