Lumatek ballasts are different to all other ballasts (including other electronic ballasts). They are tuned in to the fact that plants eat light energy - not see it!! Let us show you why.
If you view a HID lamp running off a standard ballast through a digital camera you will see flickering or a strobing effect. In comparison the Lumatek viewed by a digital camera shows solid light. This is where the big yield comes from. Plants absorb the solid non-interrupted constant light, compared to the limited flickering light. To the human eye the Lumatek ballasts are still much brighter, but unlike your plants the human eye does not recognise the extra light energy provided by the high cycle rates

Strobe Light Effect Standard Ballast 50 cycles per second |
Solid Light Lumatek Digital Ballast 28,880 cycles per second |
Old style magnetic ballasts cycle at 50 times per second (hertz). Meaning that they turn on and off 50 times per second, creating a strobing effect. The human eye cannot see this (as well as most light meters) but plants certainly do.
The Lumatek Electronic Ballast cycles at a massive 28,880 times per second, providing a non-flickering, constant light for plants to absorb.
